Influence the IS Professionalism Agenda

Businesses have never been more reliant on information systems and technology. Issues with new technology adoption, managing complexity and regulatory compliance are fuelling an increasing emphasis on both the demand and supply sides of the IT industry for the establishment of a true profession. In partnership with the BCS, Intellect and e-Skills UK, NCC is working towards this goal. Taking professionalism as a flagship theme for our 40th anniversary year NCC's IS Professionalism Programme is designed to:

  • Combat the negative image surrounding IS in business and government
  • Recast IS as key enabler of business transformation
  • Improve the skills, performance and recognition of IS people
  • Increase the attractiveness of IS employers in the marketplace
  • Develop an understanding of the career path from new entrant to CIO

Our objective is to identify, validate, distill and publish a set of best practice guidance tools that bring together effective approaches to the key disciplines that encompass the IS function. We will be exploring 10 themes, through a series of one-day workshops, which will generate focused consensual advice and guidance for the wider profession.

This work is supported by and complements the activities of BCS, Intellect and e-Skills UK, who are all supporters of the Programme.

You can influence the agenda and shape the profession by participating.

Professionalism One Day Workshops

This series of workshops has now finished. NCC has written up the outputs of this work and is making them available to promote corporate professionalism.

These Best Practice chapters together form a structured Framework for Professionalism in IS. The Chapters here contain write-ups from the Workshops, balanced with empirical research. NCC will formally publish edited chapters with additional guidance in its Best Practice Guides series during the year.
